The 7.92x24mm VBR-B caliber
The 7.92x24mm caliber was specially developed to function in a multi-caliber role. The 7.92x24mm caliber was developed in Belgium and a permit for a 7.92x24mm interchangeable barrel has already been issued by the Belgian Federal Arms Service. The 7.92x24mm interchangeable barrel and ammunition were made by VBR-Belgium.

The concept of replacing the 9x19mm NATO cartridge with a smaller but more powerful cartridge is a result of the NATO CRISAT program to achieve more energy in a smaller area. In technical terms, this is called a higher sectional density. In addition to the notorious and dangerous 5.7x28mm PDW caliber, a more civilian-friendly PDW cartridge was also developed in Flanders, namely the 7.92x24mm caliber. Recently, this concept was reinforced by the .30 Super Carry project, which is supported by Federal Premium Ammunition and the firearms manufacturer Smith & Wesson.
The .30 caliber already has a long military history as a pistol caliber. From the weaker 7.65 Browning (.32 ACP) cartridge to the powerful Russian 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge. In terms of quasi-energy and performance, the 7.92x24mm cartridge and the .30 Super Carry cartridge fall into the same class as the 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge. Essentially, the old 7.62x25mm performance is now being updated in a modern package.

The Russian 7.62x25mm Tokarev pistol is the old Russian caliber that was already in use during World War II. This was replaced years ago by the 9mm Makarov pistol, which led to a large surplus of old 7.62x25mm Tokarev pistols and large quantities of these Tokarev pistols being sold on the illegal market. The problem for bulletproof vests is that the small 7.62 mm bullet from the 7.62x25mm cartridge has a higher sectional density than the well-known larger calibers such as 9mm. The construction of old bulletproof vests did not take this into account, which means that many of these old types of bulletproof vests cannot safely stop the 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge.
Now, these powerful illegal 7.62x25mm Tokarev pistols have become a real threat to police officers still wearing old bulletproof vests. As a result, the Belgian Federal Police, through the British CAST 2017 standard, has added the 7.62x25mm Tokarev caliber to the list of threats that new police bulletproof vests must meet. However, what is a real threat to police officers is also a real threat to ordinary citizens!
