After earlier fatal stabbings at the station in Roeselare and multiple stabbings between rival drug gangs involving Chechens and Afghans, it is not stopping in this West Flemish city either. There's no getting around it, many knives are being carried, and at the slightest argument, a stabbing or knife attack occurs. (There is now security at Roeselare station).
Where does this general increase in stabbings in cities come from?
· In some foreign cultures, everyone carries a knife. The knife is a status symbol or conflicts are settled with knives. Immigrants bring their culture to cities like Roeselare.
· Some Eastern European immigrants learned to fight with knives during their military service, and at the slightest argument, knives are drawn.
· In the case of terrorism, instructions are given to attack with knives.
· Given that many immigrants in Roeselare carry knives, the local population is also arming itself with knives for personal protection against the increasing number of stabbings.
· Children confront each other, and not having a knife is no longer fashionable.
· Many people are unaware of the weapons law prohibiting carrying knives without a legal reason, and many young people don't even know they are violating the law!
There is also anti-knife clothing available that you can wear for protection without violating the weapons law for knives. This anti-knife clothing can limit or even completely prevent serious injury from a knife attack.
Most common stabbing weapons and knives

The most common bladed weapons used in a stabbing or knife attack are: sharpened screwdrivers, ice picks, utility knives, pocket knives, kitchen knives, and hunting knives or combat knives.
Difference in injury from a knife attack or stabbing.

Lacerations are a long cut, usually quite shallow, which most people consider less dangerous. Lacerations are currently most often caused by utility knives or meat knives. In knife fighting training, one is taught where to apply the knife cut to disable the victim as quickly as possible. The most fatal knife attacks occur by cutting the victim's throat. A cut-resistant neck gaiter or scarf and cut-resistant sleeves offer good protection against a cutting knife attack.

Stab wounds appear as short wounds and can be quite deep. Stab wounds occur in stabbings and can be caused by various stabbing weapons ranging from sharpened screwdrivers, ice picks, pocket knives, kitchen knives to actual combat daggers. Protection against stab wounds is very complex and depends on the tip shape of the stabbing weapon and the force with which it is wielded.

Cut-resistant clothing level 5 anti-knife protection
Cut-resistant clothing level 5 anti-knife protection is made of very strong yarns reinforced with glass fiber to increase cut resistance. The most well-known are Spectra from Honeywell and a type of blend of industrial synthetic fibers, which usually have a gray-white color. The blend we use was named Cutyarn (cut resistant yarns) by us.

Gray cut-resistant undershirt L5 from VBR-Belgium
Cut-resistant Cutyarn and Spectra level 5 offer good cut-resistant protection against very sharp utility knives and kitchen knives and already provide good protection against knife attacks. Although a single layer of cut-resistant level 5 fabric offers high resistance, the stab resistance is insufficient to stop a knife stab with a very sharp knife. Due to the high resistance of these cut-resistant fabrics, the depth of the knife stab can be limited, so that a knife stab goes less deep into the body and thus limits the injury.
Cut-resistant clothing is as flexible as regular casual clothing, and to increase stab resistance, different cut-resistant garments can be worn on top of each other, achieving greater stab resistance. We recommend at least three layers of level 5 cut-resistant fabric on top of each other to achieve any useful stab resistance against a knife attack. For example, a cut-resistant undershirt, a cut-resistant sweater, and a cut-resistant jacket.

Cut-resistant clothing level 5+ Dual Face
There is a new type of "Dual Face" cut-resistant fabric on the market used by Police Special Units. These are actually two threads knitted together in one thin layer, with one thread on one side and the other thread on the other side. This is a very tight and dense knit, making it significantly more difficult to stab through with a knife. This relatively thin layer with high stab resistance can be used as protective underwear to wear under clothing or uniform. By using two threads in a fabric, different properties can be added, such as moisture-wicking or even greater stab resistance.

Knife attack on the legs

One of the techniques knife fighters learn is to sever arteries. Even if a security guard wears a stab and bulletproof vest, a fatal cut can be inflicted without much force or struggle. The security agent is approached from behind and a discreet knife cut is made in the popliteal fossa where the femoral artery lies relatively shallow, and severing the femoral artery quickly leads to unconsciousness and death.
